61-year-old woman killed in Bronx hit-and-run


On Sunday, 61-year-old Sharon Smith died in a hit-and-run accident that happened in the Bronx.

The accident occurred one day after 2 other individuals were killed in road accidents, told the police.

Smith was trying to cross E. Gun Hill Road near White Plains Road, when a dark-colored SUV traveling east hit her. The accident happened at about 1:19 a.m.

A man who saw the accident told, “The driver ran into her and drove off. She wasn’t moving for nothing. When the ambulance came, they were trying to revive her”.

Smith was rushed to Montefiore Hospital, but she died due to critical injuries.

In another accident, 26-year-old Giovanni Nin was hit by an SUV at 12:40 a.m. on E. Tremont Ave. near Mayflower Ave. in Schuylerville when he was biking to see his girlfriend after getting off work in the Bronx.

In Manhattan, 26-year-old Samuel Silva was arrested in a Tribeca hit-and-run collision that killed an unidentified woman cyclist Saturday. Silva faced multiple charges including driving while impaired, manslaughter, fleeing the scene, and failure to yield.
