Yonkers Man Sentenced To Up To 12 Years In Death Of NYDP Detective


WHITE PLAINS – On Wednesday, 21-year-old Efren Moreano, who drove his motor vehicle the wrong way on the Sprain Brook Parkway in Greenburgh and hit an SUV driven by a New York City police detective, was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in state prison. The cop died in the accident.

Moreano drove almost 2 miles on the wrong way and many vehicles changed their direction to avoid the collision. 46-year-old Det. Paul Duncan was behind the wheel of the other vehicle, who died in the crash.

The investigation of the incident revealed that he was driving at a high rate of speed almost 105 miles per hour when the accident happened. He sustained serious injuries in the accident and he was thrown out of the motor vehicle with the force of the collision.

The emergency responders detected a strong smell of alcohol and marijuana on him. The cops found a small bag of pot on the passenger seat.

The charges for which Moreano had pled guilty included:

  • Manslaughter
  • Vehicular manslaughter
  • Reckless endangerment
